Free Picks: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Chicago Cubs

After a rollercoaster of 25 combined runs being scored on Tuesday, the Cubs and Phillies compete once again at Wrigley. Alec Mills (3-2, 4.85 ERA) is on the mound for the hometown Cubs. The visiting Phillies send Zack Wheeler (6-4, 2.05 ERA) to combat the Cubs’ hitters and extend their current 10-game losing streak.

The Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies are in a similar situation entering the All-Star break. 

Chicago finds themselves chasing top spot in the NL Central but are currently 9 games back of first place. Philadelphia are 2nd in the NL East and only 4 games back of the New York Mets. 

Entering this BetPicks Prediction, it’s been a rough stretch for the Cubs. Chicago has lost their last 10 games and are sliding down the NL Central standings. Philadelphia are 6-4 in their last 10 and trying to gain ground on the New York Mets, while also having the Nationals and Braves in their rearview mirror. 

Tuesday’s contest between the Cubs and Phillies resulted in 25-runs being scored. Yes, the Cubs tallied 10 runs and still walked out with a loss. It’s been one of those stretches for Chicago and it doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. 

I think what makes the most sense for this free MLB pick will be betting on the Moneyline straight up. Yes, Chicago is bound to end their dreadful losing skid, but with Alec Mills’ 4.85 ERA on the mound, the high-powered Phillies offense should have a field day. 

Mills has only 3 wins to his name (and 2 losses) and carries just 35 K’s. In his career, Mills has been nothing but average. 

Chicago has shown flashes of offensive brilliance in their losing skid, but have also had real stinkers at the plate.  

Philadelphia isn’t the most menacing team on offense, but they get it done. And against  a pitching staff that has struggled this season, I would imagine the Phillies will improve their hitting statistics on Wednesday. 

The Cubs are striking out a ton at the plate and are currently 2nd in Ks this season (in the NL). Right now, nothing is going right for Chicago, which is why I want to roll with the Phillies for this MLB prediction.
