While it isn’t exactly the CFP, there is a lot riding on this Cotton Bowl contest. The Florida Gators look to win their third consecutive Bowl game. As for the Oklahoma Sooners, the Big 12 studs aim to end a three-game losing skid in Bowl games.

Oklahoma vs. Florida, NCAA Football
What happens when you mix the Sooners and Gators? You get a concoction of offenses that know how to put up numbers.
Florida and Oklahoma have had no trouble finding the scoreboard this season. The Sooners were ranked 9th in total scoring, while the Gators were ranked 11th in scoring over the entire NCAA Football season.
Combined, the two teams create over 81 points of offense per game. This has me licking my chops at the O/U total, which is 71.5 (888Sport).
Neither the Sooners nor Gators own elite defenses, which opens the door for a potential shootout at the Cotton Bowl.
While the Sooners’ offense has tapered off in the past few weeks, Oklahoma still has an elite offense. Every game this season has seen Oklahoma score 27 or more points.
Florida has been a beast offensively as well. The Gators have been a scoring machine. Their lowest point total of the season came in a 31-19 victory over Tennessee.
One thing I see is Florida’s ability to score against top-ranked opponents. Against Alabama, the Gators managed to score a whopping 46 points. They also managed to drop 51 against Mississippi, 41 against Texas A&M, and 63 against Arkansas.
Oklahoma has seen the under in 4 of their last 6 games, but it’s not like the Sooners haven’t been pulling their own weight. The Sooners’ offense haven’t put up over 30 points since November 21, but what has stopped the Sooners from hitting the over is their defense. In the past four games, the Sooners have held their opponents to 21 points or less.
I don’t think the Sooners will be able to control Florida’s offense like Iowa State, Baylor, or Kansas.
Oklahoma and Florida combine for over 100 penalty yards per game. If we see penalties thrown during the Cotton Bowl, it will give these offenses more chances to put numbers on the board.
Florida is the favorite on the money line, listed at -140 (10Bet). Sports betting sites across the web have the Gators as the favorite and it’s easy to see why. Kyle Trask has been an absolute weapon this season and is a candidate (albeit a longshot) for the Heisman trophy.
Trask has managed to toss 43 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions this season. It’s no surprise why Florida has one of the best offenses in the nation, scoring 41.6 points per game.
Oklahoma has weaponry as well, but I don’t like their defense enough to compete with Florida. I think the Sooners’ offense can ball out, but will they be able to stop the offensive threat of Florida?
Oklahoma has seen teams like Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss score at will against them. In three of those games, the Gators were not able to keep pace with their opposition, resulting in a loss.
I believe this will be a high-scoring game, that sides in favor of the Gators straight up.
Stats
- Oklahoma are 7-0 SU in last 7
- The UNDER has cashed in 4 of the Sooners last 6.
- Florida are 18-2 SU over last 20 playing as the favourite
- The OVER has cashed in 9 of Florida’s last 13
