The Washington Capitals attempt to remain undefeated in regulation against powerhouse Boston. But I am more interested in how many goals will be scored in this contest. With the firepower from Washington and the stellar defense of the Bruins, this game is shaping up to be a poetic display of opposites. Can the Capitals and Bruins combine to hit the over, or will we see a low scoring affair from two elite teams?

Can Washington's offense outlast Boston's defense?
The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins are polar opposites. The Capitals lead the East Division in scoring goals, while the Bruins lead the division in stopping goals. Saturday night, these two worlds will collide.
With that being said, I think we have the makings of a game that can hit the over in total goals. The main reason I think this game will hit the over is the fact that the line is rather low. Entering this game, the O/U for total goals is currently 4.5 (888sport).
While the Bruins have incredible defense, I think themselves and Washington can easily knock this game out of the park and hit the over. Boston has struggled a tad on offense, but it’s not like Washington’s defense is the best in the NHL.
Expect the Bruins to get their chances and for Boston to capitalize on said chances. For Washington, the Capitals will be facing a team that allows the fewest shots against per game.
Yes, the Capitals are missing key players due to quarantine, but Washington has had no issue scoring goals during the absences of Alex Ovechkin or Evgeny Kuznetsov. In their last game, Washington exploded for 6 goals against the Islanders. While the Bruins’ defense is stronger than New York’s, it proves that this team is not missing any scoring touch.
A favorite in NHL Stanley Cup odds, the Washington Capitals need to clean up their defense in order to be a true contender once again. I like this game hitting the over because Washington’s offense is elite and their defense is not. Boston has struggled this season on offense but Washington should provide ample opportunity for the Bruins to get offensive chances.
The game-changer in this game is Washington. The Capitals score their fair share of goals but are known for playing in high-scoring affairs. If that holds true, expect another solid free pick that cashes.
Stats
- Boston are 2-17 SU in last 19 games against Washington
- The Bruins are 1-4 against the spread in last 5 games.
- Washington is without a regulation loss this season.
- The total has gone OVER in 5 of Washington’s last 6 games.
